Our Lineage

The Mindrolling Lineage and the Pema Lingpa Blood Lineage hold significant roles in preserving the spiritual and cultural heritage of Vajrayana Buddhism.

Mindrolling Lineage

The Mindrolling Lineage (translating to “Place of Perfect Emancipation”) is one of the six principal Nyingma monasteries in Tibetan Buddhism. Founded in 1676 by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa, a celebrated terton (treasure revealer), Mindrolling has become a cornerstone for the study, practice, and preservation of Vajrayana teachings, Specially the ritual practice is well known all over the vajrayana,

Mindrolling emphasizes both spiritual realization and scholastic excellence, hosting a rich repository of sacred texts, arts, and rituals. The lineage is renowned for its teachings on Dzogchen (Great Perfection) and its commitment to empowerments, transmissions, and practices that enable practitioners to achieve liberation. It has also maintained strong ties with Bhutan, where the Dharma flourishes through the efforts of figures like Tulku Dordzin Ugyen Lhendup, recognized as the reincarnation of Dordzin Dechen Chodzin Rinpoche of the Mindrolling lineage. The lineage continues to be upheld by eminent teachers and institutions worldwide.

Pema Lingpa Blood Lineage

The Pema Lingpa Lineage traces its roots to Terton Pema Lingpa (1450–1521), one of Bhutan’s five great treasure revealers and an emanation of Guru Padmasambhava. Born in the Bumthang region of Bhutan, Pema Lingpa revealed numerous profound spiritual treasures (terma), many of which are central to Bhutanese Vajrayana Buddhism. His teachings emphasized practical guidance for attaining enlightenment and preserving the Vajrayana traditions.

Pema Lingpa’s descendants have carried his spiritual legacy through both monastic and lay practitioners, ensuring the teachings remain vibrant. Notably, Tulku Dordzin Ugyen Lhendup, the chairman of the Yoedsal Min-drolling Foundation, belongs to the blood lineage of Pema Lingpa

through his mother Ashi Jamyang Choden. This connection to such a revered spiritual figure further enriches the foundation’s commitment to preserving and disseminating the teachings of the Nyingma tradition.

Intersection of the Two Lineages

The Mindrolling Lineage and the Pema Lingpa Blood Lineage converge in their shared dedication to the Vajrayana tradition, emphasizing profound meditation practices, the revelation of spiritual treasures, and service to humanity. Both are actively represented in Bhutan through projects like the YMF Retreat Centre in Bumthang, which stands as a living testament to these timeless lineages. Located in the sacred land of Terton Pema Lingpa, adjacent to Guru Padmasambhava’s Kurjey Lhakhang, the retreat center embodies the unity of these two great spiritual traditions.

These lineages inspire practitioners to integrate the wisdom of the past into the challenges of the present, ensuring the Dharma’s continuity for generations to come.
